What is a T-Card?
These cards were found in packages of Mecca cigarettes they feature one player when the card is open, and another when the card is folded, both players sharing the same pair of legs. Mecca Double Folders measure 2-1/4" by 4-11/16." The fronts are color lithographs with the player's name appearing in black script in the upper left. The backs are printed in red and contain player statistics. The 50-card set contains 100 different players including 20 of Hall of Famers. The Mecca Double Folders, with two players and statistics were one of the most innovative of the tobacco card era. Due to the 2 player per card and way the card is folded this set is not recommended for team collecting.
Measuring 5-1/2" by 2-1/4", Hassan cigarette cards carried the concept of multiple-player cards even further than the previous year’s Mecca set. The two end cards which are full-color and very close to exact duplicates of T205 "Gold Borders". The two end cards fold over the black and white center panel, making the Hassan Triple Folder appears like a booklet when closed. The two end cards are individual player cards, while the larger center panel contains an black and white action scene. Usually the two player cards are not related to the action scene. The unique Hassan Triple Folders feature player biographies on the back of the two individual cards with a description of the action on the back of the center panel. Values depend on the player featured in the center panel, as well as the players featured on the end cards. This set is not recommended for team collecting.
The bottom appears the player's last name, position team While issued with both Ramlys and T.T.T. brand Turkish tobacco cigarettes, the 121 cards in this set take their name from the more common of the two brands. By any name the set is one of the more interesting and attractive of the early 20th Century. The 2-1/2" by 2-1/2" cards carry black and white oval photographic portraits with impressive gold embossed frames and borders on the front. Toward and league. The backs carry only the most basic information on the cigarette company. Due to their scarcity, the Ramly set is not widely collected. The complete set price does not include the scarce variations.
Nicknamed from their border color, these cards were issued in a number of different cigarette brands. The cards measure 1-7/16" x 2-5/8". American League cards feature a color lithograph of the player inside a stylized baseball diamond. National League cards have head and shoulders portraits and a plain background, additionally the first ever use of a facsimile autograph in a major card set. The 12 minor league players in the set feature three-quarter length portraits or action pictures in an elaborate frame of columns and other devices. Card backs of the major leaguers carry the player's full name and statistics. Card backs of the minor leaguers lack the statistics. The complete set price does not include the scarcer variations. This set is recommended for team and set building.
The nearly 525 cards which make up the T206 set are the most popular of the early tobacco card issues. Players are depicted in a color lithograph against a variety of colorful backgrounds, surrounded by a white border. The player names on the 1-7/16~ x 2-5/8" cards appear at the bottom with the city and league, when a city had more than one team. Backs contain an ad for one of 16 brands of cigarettes. There are 389 major leaguer cards and 134 minor leaguer cards in the set, but with frount and back varieties the number of potentially different cards runs into the thousands. The set features many expensive cards including a number of pose and/or team variations along with the very scarce Eddie Plank card and the "King of Baseball Cards", the T206 Honus Wagner, the most avidly sought of all baseball cards.
